Not 100% Debt Free, Yet
Ok, if you have been following me you know Emily and I have our mortgage paid off. But we are not quite 100% debt free yet. As I write this we still have $2,000 in credit card debt that will be paid off finally this Friday. I’m super excited to finally say I’m debt free.
Why did I pay off the mortgage, but still have credit card debt?
The biggest reason why is because I had a dead set goal of paying the mortgage off in 2016. This is why we paid the last payment on December 31st 2016. So in order to make that a reality we had to, NOT, pay any extra on our credit cards. While this goes against what I was doing as far as Dave Ramsey’s plan I had to make it my own…cough, Emily 🙂
But non the less the time of debt freedom is finally here. Choosing this route didn’t slow down this debt. It only allowed us to choose what was important to us, and that was paying off the damn mortgage in 2016.
No matter the plan you follow, Dave’s or anyone elses, you must make it your own. Now, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel but you do have to make sure that the plan aligns with your priorities, ours happened to be the mortgage getting paid off.
What is the number one thing you would like to see paid off in your financial life?
